Trinity United Church of Christ

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Since it's beginning in 2005, The Prayer Shawl Ministry has touched the lives of hundreds of members and friends. This dedicated group knits and crochets shawls to comfort and celebrate. We strive to "continue the ministry of Jesus" by providing a healing touch in the form of a shawl. Please join us on the second and fourth Sunday of each month from 6:30-8:30 PM in room 106 if you wish to participate in this important ministry. If you know someone that you feel needs a shawl or you would like more information about this ministry, please contact the church office.

Congregational Life Team

Congregational Life Team is a very important part of the care and fellowship of the people who are part of Trinity. Senior Care Council, Called to Care, Council of Elders, Blood Bank, Kitchen Coordinator, Funeral Meal Coordinator, School House Mission and the Prayer Chain are all wonderful resources for shut-ins and anyone in need.

Congregational Life also has a lot of fun. In the summer is the Ice Cream Social and the Trinity Church Picnic. For the sports enthusiast there is a golf team and a coed softball team, Trinity Night at the Cleveland Indians and even a Corn Hole Tournament. Around the holidays there is an Advent Workshop for any one that likes to make crafts and Christmas Caroling. In March is the Trinity St. Patrick's Day Party where everyone enjoys lots of fun, food and music.

The Congregational Life Team has a lot of fun working together. As a member you can be involved in a few events or all of them. If you would like to join thisteam, please call the office and leave your name and phone number.

Call to Care

Called to Care is an outreach program of Trinity UCC in which volunteers communicate with home-bound, care facilitated, and hospitalized members and friends of TUCC by phone calls, visits, or letters. The information gathered from these contacts is then shared with the Ministry team and the Spiritual Council of the church.

Bible Study

Men's Bible Study

The 2010/2011 season of the Trinity Men's Bible Study will commence on Wednesday morning September 8th around the kitchen table. As has been the custom we will gather promptly between 6:45 and 7:00AM for a few  minutes of fellowship and then begin our study and discussion no later than 7:15AM. The departure goal will be no later than 8:15AM; however, some may stay longer for more fellowship and discussion as their schedule  permits. As in the past, juice, donuts and coffee will be available for those attending.

This season we will continue our study in the Old Testament using the Book of Genesis. The study material will consist of a 26 part lesson series entitled "God's Creative Call" as set forth in A Life Guide Bible Study, the same series that was used last year. Once again, the series should take us to the spring of next year.

TWO GREAT SCHOLARS THIS YEAR

Rabbi John Spitzer has graciously agreed to return for a second year to share with the group the Genesis story through the eyes of the Jewish people and will follow the same, first Wednesday of the month, schedule as we enjoyed last year. Because Rabbi Spitzer has a travel conflict, our very own scholar Pastor Stephen Gifford will join us on September 8th to "set the stage" for the study venture to follow. Pastor Gifford will also join the group on Wednesday October 6th with Rabbi Spitzer scheduled to return on Wednesday November 3rd.

SPREAD THE WORD - ASK OTHERS TO JOIN WITH US ON THIS WONDERFUL JOURNEY.

Wednesday Morning Bible Study

This is a weekly Bible Study group of ladies that meet each Wednesday morning  at 9:30 AM and is led by Pastor Gifford. They have an in-depth study of the Scriptures. Each person shares her understanding of the lessons chosen for study. The study is designed to give more knowledge of the Bible at the time it was written and also how the bible lessons can speak to us in our present time.

Thursday Morning Women's Bible Study

Our pattern of study is always grounded in Scripture whether we are intensely studying a specific book of the Bible or whether we are following a certain author through a series of spiritual awareness topics, prayers initiatives, etc.  Group leadership and organization is generally directed by Lisa Wind; however it is the underlying understanding of shared group participation that fuels the discussions and the connection within this special group of women.

Book Groups

The Sunday Morning Book Group, meets in the Church Parlor at 10:15 AM on Sunday mornings. Please join us for Have a Little Faith! Join us in the parlor starting Sept. 12 as we discuss Mitch Albom's Have a Little Faith, "the story of a faith journey that could become a classic. Those who were born into faith, have lost faith, or are still searching will be engaged and challenged by this powerful story of "finding faith" in relationships with others and with something greater than ourselves. Never satisfied with easy answers or soft platitudes, Mitch (author of Tuesdays with Morrie) explores some of life's greatest mysteries and unanswered questions with great honesty, depth and self reflection."

Tuesday Night Book Group Starts September 7 ~ We will be reading Reaching Out by Henri Nouwen.  "In this classic work of spirituality from one of the most well-loved writers of our time, Nouwen responds to the question, "What does it mean to live a life in the Spirit of Jesus Christ?"  Explored are the three movements of the spiritual life:  reaching out to our innermost self from mere loneliness to creative solitude, reaching out to our fellow human beings from arid independence to self-giving and finally reaching out to God who 'calls us from the darkness of our illusions into the light of his glory.'" Also included in this volume is Beyond the Mirror, in which Nouwen relives the serious accident which, having brought him face to face with death, eventually led to a deepening of his spiritual understanding of life and God's love.

The Tuesday Night Book Group meets at 7:00 PM every first and third Tuesday.  For more information please contact the church office, 330-492-3383.
